The role

We are looking for an experienced Category Manager/Buyer to join our Everyday & Seasonal team taking accountability for our Health & Beauty category.  This is one of the largest categories and includes national brand cosmetics, skin care & beauty accessories.  Your role will be to buy the best, most competitive and on trend range, and price the range to maximise sales, profit and customer satisfaction.  This role is ideal for a Buyer who is a solid trader, great at building on trend ranges with excellent organisation skills. 

Reporting to the Senior Category Manager and based at our Support Office in Bella Vista, you will:

• Build range, pricing, option plan and proposed promotions using insights and aligned to BIG W strategies

• Own supplier relationships and optimise supplier portfolio in category; joint business planning and negotiate trading terms with suppliers

• Conduct research in order to gain a thorough understanding of the target markets and external market drivers

• Work closely with Marketing, Planning and Stores on the execution of promotions and events

About You

To ensure your success in this role, you will have proven experience as a commercial retail Category Manager/Buyer successfully trading a sizeable category in terms of sales and options.  You will execute and manage the full end to end buying process and be agile in your thinking and adaptable to change.

In addition, you will need to demonstrate the following experience:

  • Commercial acumen - strong analytical thinking with the ability to interpret results, analyse and plan for the future

  • Stakeholder management - ability to positively engage with others and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels

  • Superior commercial negotiation and influencing skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • FMCG & Product Development experience highly regarded
