CityLink is one of the busiest road networks in Melbourne. And that means a lot of traffic. Managing the safety of our road users and ensuring they get where the need to go on time is no small feat, and our Traffic Control Room is responsible for just that. As a Senior Traffic Control Room Officer, You will play a lead role in ensuring our Control Room staff have the training, resources and procedures to do what they need in order to keep our road users safe.

The impact you will have

  • Your curious mind will drive you to think bigger, and find new ways to improve our processes, traffic management, and make recommendations
  • You'll supervise, lead and mentor the Traffic Control Room Officer’s ensuring the team have the right skills and motivation to undertake their duties
  • Managing the shift roster, you'll ensure we have correct levels of staff at all times and implement contingencies as required
  • You'll oversee the day-to-day responsibilities for traffic operations and incident management
  • You'll review permit to work applications from both internal and third party entities and provide guidance and approval, as applicable
  • You'll ensure that there is effective and safe coordination between the various work parties that access the motorway and the safe and functional operation of the motorway itself
  • You'll provide detailed reports, feedback and recommendations on day-to-day and procedural improvements and enhancements aimed at improving motorist safety
  • You'll participate in operational incident exercises (desktop and field), co-operating with emergency agencies during incidents
  • You'll provide real time information on road conditions to senior management, either by phone, sms notifications or via traffic management systems
  • You'll assist in administrative tasks such as audits, reviews of plans, procedures and other documentation as required
  • You'll provide appropriate training to other officers on an ongoing basis.
  • You'll identify asset and system faults and defects and assign service requests to the relevant provider

The talents you will bring

  • You will have proven experience in reviewing and developing procedures, training requirements and plans
  • You will have a strong desire for learning and development, having completed your Cert IV in Training and Assessments, or other relevant qualification/s
  • You can mentor, you can lead and most importantly you can lead by example. You don’t say what you would do, you demonstrate how it is done and influence those around you
  • You’re no stranger to either a monitoring centre or operational environment
  • You will enjoy problem solving, and enjoy the various challenges that come with a fast-paced and evolving organisation.
  • As a strong communicator, you enjoy dealing with various stakeholders, both technical and non-technical
  • You will have the ability to prioritise, delegate and remain calm in a crisis. You’re also keen to get your hands dirty to resolve a situation.
  • You will be passionate about Melbourne’s road network, traffic and incident management in general
  • You will be organised, driven, resilient and efficient, showing confidence and professionalism no matter how challenging the situation is
  • You’re experienced in writing reports and you know which important details to include so the operation runs smoothly
  • Shift work’s your thing, you’ve done it before and you like it – our roads are open 24/7
