About the Department

St Vincent’s Pathology is a fully accredited NATA/RCPA registered facility, and operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week providing diagnostic testing to both inpatients of St Vincent’s Public Hospital Fitzroy and St Vincent’s Private Hospital located in Fitzroy, East Melbourne and Kew, as well as servicing privately referred patients.

About the Role

An opportunity currently exists for a Point of Care Testing (POCT) Supervisor (Grade 3 Scientist) to join the Biochemistry team on a full time, permanent basis. As the POCT Supervisor you will be responsible for the day to day management and supervision of the Community Remote Testing Laboratories and will have input into the management of POCT at SVHM.


  • Prepare Community Remote Testing (CRT) Laboratories for NATA Accreditation
  • Supervise and where necessary perform internal quality control testing on Point of Care Testing Instrumentation and document results
  • Supervise and where necessary perform external quality assurance testing and complete external quality assurance testing result surveillance and reporting to satisfy NATA requirements
  • Visit CRT Laboratories regularly to satisfy laboratory requirements
  • Liaise with medical and technical staff regarding Point of Care Testing

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in the management of Point of Care Testing
  • High level knowledge in the area of Point of Care Testing
  • High level knowledge and experience in an area of diagnostic pathology (eg  Chemical Pathology)
  • Experience and proven capability in the day-to-day management of a pathology laboratory
  • Knowledge and experience with point of care instrumentation  (Key operator training is desirable)
