The Education Portfolio is headed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education and Vice President who leads the planning and implementation of the University’s strategies related to RMIT’s academic programs and the RMIT student experience. The Portfolio is responsible for services to support the quality of RMIT programs, including the professional development of academic staff, continuous improvement of the student experience, learning and teaching outcomes and the management of learning and research information sources.

The Education Portfolio plays a key role in empowering students to access education, participate actively in the life of the University and achieve successful and fulfilling lives beyond graduation. The provision of a stimulating and satisfying experience for students is a priority for the University.

The Role & Your Responsibilities

The Early Childhood Educator is responsible for:

  • Providing high quality care to meet the physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of individuals and groups of children in line with high quality standard of care and the Children’s Services Act 1996, Children’s Services regulations 2011, The National Quality framework (NQF), Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), Victorian Early Years Learning and Development (VELYLD) and the Centre’s philosophy and mission statement.
  • Undertaking planning, implementing and evaluating developmentally appropriate programs for individuals and groups of children in conjunction with other staff.
  • Building and maintaining close relationships with parents/guardians of the children in the Centre, through constant communication, to meet the needs of individual families.

Skills & Experience Required

As the successful candidate you will have excellent knowledge of the Services regulations 2011, The National Quality framework (NQF), Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), Victorian Early Years Learning and Development (VELYLD). You will have significant experience in developing and undertaking programme planning and relevant experience in a long day care setting. A thorough knowledge of children’s development and ability to observe, plan, implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate children’s programs is essential to your success in this role. You will demonstrate the ability to work co-operatively and respect families from diverse cultural, socio-economic and religious backgrounds. High level literacy skills are desirable.

Qualifications

Anaphylaxis and asthma training.

A current Level II First Aid Certificate, including CPR.

A Diploma or equivalent (recognised by ACECQA) in Early Childhood Education (minimum qualification).
