About the role: 
We are currently seeking a Health & Safety Superintendent at our Moorvale Mine.  Our Coppabella Moorvale mine complex consists of two open-cut mine operations located approximately 140 kilometers southwest of Mackay that produce premium low-volatile pulverised coal (LV-PCI) for export markets.

Reporting to the Health Safety & Training Manager, you will be responsible for driving safety performance, while providing guidance to the Moorvale Mine site personnel to ensure compliance with legislative obligations and requirements of the Health & Safety/SAWOL Management Systems. You will be part of a small but dynamic team championing a strong health safety and training culture across the site.

Duties will include:

  • Proactive approach to managing safety on site and actively demonstrating safety leadership

  • Delivering and monitoring health and safety strategies

  • Ensuring incidents are investigated with actions closed out in a timely manner

  • Coaching and providing advice on compliance with all safety legislation and Peabody SAWOL processes and procedures

  • Facilitating risk assessments and safety audits

  • Ensuring activities on site are carried out in accordance with the Health and Safety Management System requirements

  • Maintaining the health and safety system to ensure compliance with relevant industry standards

  • Liaising with contractors and subcontractors on health and safety matters

  • Designing, developing, preparing and conducting health and safety training

  • Assisting in the Injury Management and Worker’s Compensation process

  • Consult and communicate with site WHS committee

The lifestyle:
This position is offered on a 9 day fortnight (Mon-Fri, Mon-Thurs) roster and can allow for a residential (with accommodation allowance), DIDO or FIFO lifestyle.
 
About you:
Ideally the successful candidate will have a degree in Occupational Health and Safety or an Occupational Health related discipline, along with the following:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role within the mining industry. 

  • Thorough understanding of risk management principles and possibly a G3 Risk Management qualification along

  • Extensive experience in health and safety systems, auditing and incident reporting and investigation. 

  • Possess a “can do” attitude and have a strong commitment to cultural change initiatives.
