About the role
We are currently seeking a Mining Engineer at our Wambo Mine, reporting to the Technical Services Manager. Our Wambo mine complex is a combined open-cut and underground mine located 30 kilometers west of Singleton that produce metallurgical and thermal coal for export and domestic markets. In this role, you will be responsible for optimising the mine planning process whilst working within the safety and statutory framework.  

Responsibilities will include:
  • Manage the Mine Production Forecasting and Scheduling Process
  • Facilitate the Short Term Planning process (1 to 4 weeks) ensuring resource and activity conflicts are prioritised and managed
  • Identify and report on improvement opportunities for mining processes including analysis of production and delay data
  • Provide technical advice and support to operational personnel, particularly production coordinators, as required
  • Examine mining methods and equipment to monitor and improve performance.
  • Contribute to the overall management of mining activities to ensure mine production tonnage, supporting activities and cost budgets are achieved
  • Ensure all work is conducted with Peabody and Legislative requirements
  • Assist with Project Management of various Mining Engineering projects when required.
  • Participate in and facilitate the risk management process for work under accountabilities.
  • Actively facilitate and participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Step up to cover direct supervisors role for periods of leave when required.
 About You
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or equivalent
  • You will need to be a high performing engineer with  around 2-3 years’ experience as a mining engineer preferably in underground coal mining
  • Proficient in a variety of mine planning software including XPAC, AutoCad, MS Office suite and project management software (Microsoft Project)
  • Attention to detail is a must
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and ability to foster and maintain a positive safety culture
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Conversant with risk management processes
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills, a “can do” attitude and able to work with minimal supervision to develop concepts through to implementation
