About the role: 
We are currently seeking an Environmental Superintendent for our North Goonyella Mine.  Our North Goonyella Mine is an underground longwall mine located 160 kilometers west of Mackay producing a premium quality, high strength coking coal for export markets.

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will be accountable for developing, implementing and maintaining the Environmental Management System for North Goonyella, ensure the mine site is compliant with current Environmental legislation, oversee rehabilitation operations across the site, including rehabilitation liabilities, environmental monitoring programs, site water and waste management systems. Your duties will also include: 
  • Directing the activities of contractors and consultants;
  • Reviewing and modifying the sites environmental management system;
  • Ensure environmental risks are identified and managed;
  • Preparing and submitting documentation and reports as required by environmental approvals;
  • Monitoring and reporting on the sites environmental activities and performance to the site management team and Peabody Corporate; and
  • Developing and implementing budgets, to ensure environmental compliance and implementation of environmental stewardship programs.
The lifestyle:
This position is offered on a Monday to Friday 9 day fortnight roster and can allow for a residential (Moranbah or Nebo), DIDO or FIFO lifestyle. 
About you:
  • A tertiary degree in Environmental Science  
  • Understanding and experience with managing legislative environmental compliance
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the Australian (or equivalent regulatory environment) mining industry in an environmental role (at least 3 years site based, preferably Qld or NSW coal) including demonstrated experience with:
    • Surface water management
    • Implementing environmental monitoring programs
    • Mine rehabilitation planning and calculating rehabilitation liabilities (internal and government processes)
  • Competency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • A high degree of computer literacy and report writing capability
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including experience with stakeholder engagement; and,
  • A passion for safety as a way of life.
