Remuneration: ($115,617 - $123,749), plus superannuation and annual leave loading
Employment Status: Ongoing – Full Time

The Opportunity & Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Compliance Officer to join the Resource Assessments & Compliance team within the Department of Planning & Environment. This role will be based in Singleton in the Hunter region.
The Department of Planning and Environment is responsible for overseeing the most significant development and infrastructure projects in NSW. The delivery of these projects is an important component of meeting the State’s economic and employment growth objectives. The compliance team’s role is to ensure that the projects are delivered in compliance with approval obligations that are designed to protect the community and the environment.

The Senior Compliance Officer is responsible for:
Undertaking high quality regulatory investigations into alleged breaches arising from the development of some of the largest and most complex projects in NSW, including major road, rail and renewable energy projects, hospitals, schools, mines and quarries;
Using risk management and data analysis approaches to target monitoring and investigations;
Deploying the latest technology to carry out investigations and surveillance;
Exercising statutory powers to facilitate investigations and to enforce penalties and remedy environmental harm;
Working with a broad range of stakeholders, including government agencies, industry groups, environmental groups and the community to improve compliance outcomes; and
Working in a dynamic, fast paced and collaborative multi-disciplinary team to achieve the Department’s objectives.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who understands the importance of customer service and who has excellent administrative, planning and organisational skills. The candidate is someone who can maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and the Department’s business and administrative polices, systems and processes. The successful candidate will be someone who can juggle multiple tasks while delivering quality outcomes and managing day-to-day issues within a high pressure and high volume work environment. They will work to promote compliance and optimal outcomes amongst all stakeholders on a wide variety of projects.

Essential Requirements:
Degree in planning, environmental management, engineering, law, or other relevant discipline
Demonstrated knowledge of relevant environmental and planning legislation and processes
Willingness to travel and (minimum) Class C Driver’s License
