Position Information

James Busby High School has a current enrolment of 686 students, including 75% from non -English speaking backgrounds, 45 Aboriginal students and a Support Unit of 10 classes that supports students with mild or moderate intellectual disability and Autism. Our school has developed a strong collaborative culture with our school community and focuses on quality teaching, improving literacy and numeracy outcomes and ensuring the wellbeing needs of our students are supported.We take pride in the number of ways in which we are able to support the academic, emotional and social needs of our students. We are a school that is characterised as being responsive to the individual needs of our students and community and one that focuses on preparing our students for the world that they will inhabit. We are a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) school  and are currently implementing the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM). We focus on Quality Teaching and a Pastoral Care program that is values and PB4L driven.

Selection Criteria

  1. Approval to teach English as a Second Language - Secondary.
  2. Excellence in the ability to develop and deliver programs designed to meet the literacy and numeracy needs of students with Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) needs.
  3. Evidence of well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents and the wider community.
  4. Capacity and willingness to contribute to a positive school culture.


Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
