About the directorate

The Centre for Education Statistics and Evaluation provides data, evaluation and analysis to support evidence-based decision making, resource allocation and practice for early childhood education and care and education and training within NSW. It is responsible for advising the Government on the State’s performance and supporting continuous performance improvement through data analysis, evaluation and research.” Our core responsibilities are to: 

  • provide data analysis, information and evaluation that improve effectiveness, efficiency and accountability
  • collect essential education data and provide a one-stop shop for information needs
  • build capacity across the whole education sector so that everyone can make better use of data and evidence.

About the role

The main responsibilities of the role are the administration of the data collections database, maintenance/enhancements to reporting and provision of strategic data analysis to executives.


To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining large and complex databases (SQL Server)
  • Experience with data migration, data validation and exposure to business intelligence solutions
  • Experience writing complex SQL queries, including stored procedures
  • Knowledge of education data and concepts would be an advantage

Pre-Screening Questions:

  1. Describe a project where you were responsible for integrating data from various systems using complex SQL queries/stored procedures or other technology/tools. What challenges did you have to overcome? How did you automate the process? (300 word maximum)
  2. Provide an example of a complex request from a stakeholder for which a solution needed to be delivered to a tight timeline. Describe the technology/tools used and how you managed stakeholder requirements and expectations. (300 words maximum)



  • Demonstrated experience with management of relational databases and exposure to SQL Server business intelligence stack
