The Evaluation, Research and Evidence Branch (EREB) is a dynamic and interesting workplace focused on driving the Department’s evaluation and research agenda and providing the evidence and analysis needed to maintain effective employment services programs. As a team member, you will help us develop partnerships with key stakeholders and provide our colleagues with insights and evidence to strengthen strategic policy in the Departments key policy areas, including workforce participation, employment, and income support.

The Positions

We use a project-based approach to our work, where you will work on evaluation and research projects best suited to your strengths, as well as having the opportunity to broaden your skills base. We are looking for talented people to join the branch to take on the challenges and opportunities associated with evaluating the Government’s labour market programs and initiatives, which include: jobactive; the Online Employment Services Trial; Transition to Work; Empowering YOUth Initiatives; ParentsNext; and; Youth Jobs PaTH.

The positions are initially for six months, with the possibility of extension. We are looking for people who have skills in the following areas:
Evaluation design
• Designing evaluation strategies and program logics for upcoming evaluations
Quantitative Data
• Managing and analysing the departments evaluation datasets using SAS and Excel
Qualitative Data
• Developing and undertaking qualitative research and analysing data using NVivo
Survey Design
• Developing or providing input into surveys for use in CATI or online through Qualtrix
Project management
• Managing evaluation and research projects
• Writing evaluation or research reports that present data and evidence in a way that is readable and digestible for our key stakeholders both within and beyond the Department.

To be successful, you will need to have:
• Strong project and people management skills, including engaging and managing consultants and stakeholders, and achieving results in a demanding and changing environment
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interpret and explain technical issues and research results to non-technical audiences and either:
o Demonstrated knowledge of evaluation and/or research methodologies and experience in applying the methodologies to program evaluation and/or empirical research or
o Demonstrated experience in data analytics and interrogation using statistical techniques.
It would also be advantageous for you to have relevant tertiary qualifications.
