Lead Network Engineer

Information Technology Department

Permanent - Full Time

(80 hours per fortnight with ADO)


The Information Management team has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Lead Network Engineer to join the technical operations team. Reporting to the Technical Operations Manager the Lead Network Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership within the network engineering team and building strong technical capability. Due to an internal promotion you have the opportunity to be part of major projects and new technologies being deployed across Ballarat Health Services (BHS), Health Services within the Grampians Region, and other associated organisations. The role will be include: 

  • Administration, configuration and maintenance of enterprise firewalls serving multiple customers including connectivity with partner organisations using site to site VPNs
  • Design, configuration and installing complex switching and routing environments in conjunction with regional IT teams.
  • Perform regular review of network and security devices
  • Work with the management team to develop technical strategy and build new capability
  • Maintain IT infrastructure currency and ensure compliance to all standards and cybersecurity obligations.
  • Perform complex troubleshooting and be the go to network expert
  • Work in collaboration with the IT Projects Lead to deliver technical advice and solutions to existing and future projects both at BHS and across the Grampians Region.

The successful applicant will work in a team of highly skilled professionals to provide exceptional network and network security services to the Grampians region. Ideally suiting a candidate who prospers in this team environment and is passionate and self-motivated. You will work alongside systems administrators, integration analysts and application support staff as well as collaborating with the broader ICT teams at BHS and across the region.


To be successful in the role you will; 

  • Have proven experience with IT enterprise network and firewall products
  • Proven ability to design, deploy and troubleshoot IT enterprise networks
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Highly developed problem-solving skills
