Deputy Ombudsman

Level 5, $85,047 to $93,994, PSGOGA

We are currently seeking to fill two Investigating Officer positions. There is currently one permanent vacancy and one 12 month fixed term appointment with the possibility of extension or permanent appointment. This temporary position may be filled through acting, secondment, or fixed term contract arrangements.

About the Western Australian Ombudsman

The office of the Ombudsman has four principal functions. The Office:

  • Receives, investigates and resolves complaints about State Government agencies, local governments and universities;
  • Reviews certain child deaths and family and domestic violence fatalities;
  • Improves public administration for the benefit of all Western Australians through own motion investigations and education and liaison programs with public authorities; and
  • Undertakes a range of additional functions, including statutory inspection and monitoring functions.

The Ombudsman also undertakes the role of the Energy and Water Ombudsman.

Staff of the Ombudsman’s Office

The staff of the Ombudsman’s office are its key resource. The office supports professional development through education and training and flexible work arrangements may be negotiated.

The Ombudsman’s office provides services to a diverse range of people within the Western Australian community and people from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

The position is covered by the Public Service and Government Officers General Agreement 2014 and is located in the CBD, Perth Western Australia.

This Position

The Investigating Officer is part of a Complaint Resolution team that is responsible for assessing and investigating complaints received from members of the public about the decision making and practices of public authorities and undertaking community and agency liaison.

Key Duties

  • Investigates and resolves complaints from members of the public about the decision making and practices of public authorities;
  • Assists senior officers with more complex complaints; and
  • Undertakes related projects and community and agency liaison.
