Byford Secondary College (SC) is establishing a pool of outstanding teachers of English for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during 2018. Placements can be made from the pool for commencement at any time within the 2018 school year.

Suitable applicants for these positions will be dynamic, passionate teachers of English with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. Applicants with experience teaching ATAR English and/or ATAR Literature would be viewed favourably.  Applicants will need to demonstrate the professional knowledge, practices and experience to deliver an engaging and relevant secondary school curriculum and have proven success working with students across a range of ability levels.

Suitable applicants will be student and relationship focused, enthusiastic, innovative and motivated, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. They will engage in ongoing self-reflection and assess the effectiveness of teaching practice to create an environment conducive to learning and facilitate educational opportunities which provide purposeful and relevant learning experiences. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment are essential, as well as a willingness to engage in professional learning and liaise with colleagues, parents and external networks to establish strong community partnerships. 

Byford SC is an Independent Public School located approximately 30 kilometres from the Perth CBD. Our College provides for the secondary education needs of students from Byford and the surrounding communities, with our current cohort of 1025 Year 7-11 students, looking to grow to approximately 1250 students in Years 7-12 in 2018. Byford SC has also become a focal point for secondary education provision for students with disabilities when in 2017 our inclusion facilities opened. 

As a new secondary College with a focus on ICT and an established BYOD (iPads) program, suitable applicants will ideally embrace 21st century learning practices and participate in leading innovation and change to pedagogy.  Byford SC''s motto, Aspire to Excellence, clearly articulates our vision of being the secondary school of choice for the local community, which provides a comprehensive suite of subjects from Year 7 through 12. 

The College offers an academic extension program for students by selection, in partnership with the University of Western Australia. This program, titled Aspire, provides students at Byford SC with access to the university''s staff and facilities to enhance their learning experience. This partnership also provides our teaching staff with access to professional learning opportunities and exposure to the latest research in the field of education as well as curriculum content and pedagogy across our learning areas.
