Narrogin Senior High School (SHS) is seeking an experienced, dedicated and dynamic Head of Learning Area - Technologies, who is committed to achieving the best educational outcomes for students in Technologies and across the whole school, to join our dedicated Leadership Team.

The Technologies Learning Area covers the broad range of Technologies contexts including:

  • Design and Technologies
  • Materials technologies
  • Engineering principles and systems
  • Food technologies
  • Textiles technologies
  • Digital Technologies

The successful applicant will provide leadership to specialist teachers, as well as leading the implementation of excellence in teaching practise across the Learning Area. This role will require an understanding of assessment for learning, differentiated planning, visible learning principles and implementation of the Western Australian Curriculum. In fulfilling this role, he/she will need to work collaboratively with the principal, deputy principals, and members of the leadership team, staff, students and the wider community.

The successful applicant will lead staff to ensure that the learning intentions for each lesson are shared with students and are a regular part of teacher practise, and that all students are provided with high quality and timely feedback on their performance. With effective interpersonal skills, suitable applicants will work closely with students, staff and the community to achieve the best possible educational outcomes for our students and ensure that the school and classroom environments are safe, respectful, tolerant, positive and inclusive.

The successful applicant will be student and relationship focused, enthusiastic, innovative and motivated, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. They will engage in ongoing self-reflection and assess the effectiveness of teaching practise to create a positive environment conducive to learning and provide educational opportunities which provide purposeful and relevant learning experiences that cater for different student learning needs. Suitable applicants will also actively participate in planning around curriculum and programs to address the school’s Strategic Plan and core expectations for the Positive Behaviour Support program.

The successful applicant will lead the delivery of Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses to a Certificate III level in this and other areas. A highly desirable requirement of this position is holding the current TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be appointed to other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Employees will be required to:

  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check. 


Employees will be required to:

  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
