The Thales Australia Maritime business offers ship repair services, maintenance and asset management / in-service support capabilities for commercial and naval ships in Australia. With a close proximity to the Sydney CBD and surrounding areas, a growing portfolio of projects and based  at Garden Island, you will be at the epicentre of our Maritime operations in a truly unique location.
The Opportunity
We are soon to commence a significant in-service support program for our primary customer, the Royal Australian Navy. You will join the team as we support a critical addition to the Royal Australian Navy fleet. At this moment we are actively looking for a Safety Administration Officer to join our newly formed project team. As our Safety Administration Officer you are responsible for the implementation and verification of Thales’s policies and procedures and maintenance of all protective Safety and Security measures in line with the quality standards and within risks mitigation objectives.

  • Analyse Customer and Thales Safety requirements, review and implement the HSE Plan.
  • Active participation in verification (audit) activity as defined in the yearly programme .
  • Supply the data resulting from audits, returns / rejections and customer complaints whilst adhering to reporting requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System.
  • Support project staff on root cause analysis, monitoring/follow up and closure of customer complaints, improvement actions, non-conformances, corrective and preventative actions.
  • Review of licencing, training and inductions before commencement of work.
  • Maintain  high visibility through personal presence, and act as Thales point of contact for daily ship security quality/safety walk arounds.
  • Exercise the duty to Stop any activity that does not conform to Defence/TA WHS obligations.
  • Conduct process reviews based on a risk approach using customer feedback and audit outcomes
About you
  • Auditor Qualifications (formal training) or 3 years relevant industrial experience
  • Experience in & sound working knowledge of HSE issues to ensure compliance to HSE rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Practical experience in safety processes and assurance/control and verification activities in a technology/services environment.
  • Influencing skills including the ability to promote continuous improvements in processes at all levels and across all areas of the organisation.
  • Excellent communications skills (verbal and written), including the ability to prepare and present reports to a range of audiences.
  • Advanced ability in Microsoft Office tools: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, etc. 
Special Requirements: Must be an Australian Citizen to be eligible for a Defence Security Clearance and to access information covered by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations.
