Our Wambo mine complex is a combined open-cut and underground mine located 30 kilometers west of Singleton that produce metallurgical and thermal coal for export and domestic markets.  We currently require the expertise of a Health & Safety Specialist
About the role:
This role reports to the Health, Safety and Training Manager Wambo Coal and is based at the Wambo Mine site.  The Health and Safety Specialist will provide advice and services to line management in the application of SAWOL MS and WHS practices.
Responsibilities in this position include but are not limited to: 
  • Coach and conduct safety interactions meeting personal KPI targets
  • Daily discussion with shift supervisor regarding reported incidents
  • Review incidents, safety scrums and hazard reports for production meeting
  • Complete entry in PIMS / SAP EHS, investigation and action as required
  • Lead level 1, 2 and 3 investigations and ICAM’s
  • Plan and conduct risk assessments and conduct safety initiatives including daily start of shift information
  • Assist with the update and maintenance of the risk register
  • Update safety performance trends and reports to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Conduct weekly safety audits including critical controls
  • Assist auditing process and develop auditing tools for safety compliance
  • Lead safety initiatives and continuous improvements for safety
  • Attend meetings for the HST department, operational areas and prestart meetings
  • Work to maintain budget and cost controls required for the HST department
  • Assist in coordination of corporate projects and initiatives
  • Assist with the legislative compliance requirements and company compliance for SAWOL  MS
  • Assist and coordinate the implementation of behavioural safety programs
  • Assist in meeting annual safety management plans
  • Ensure timely monitoring and HST reporting requirements are adhered to for Daily, Weekly, Monthly and Yearly reports (including leading and lagging indicators)
  • Assist coordination of Health and Hygiene monitoring and reporting with corrective actions being applied to out of conformance areas
About You:
Critical to your success will be:
  • Three to five years practical experience in health, safety and training in the mining or equivalent heavy industry
  • Strong SHMS system experience
  • Solid understanding of, and the ability to interpret the Work Health and Safety  legislation pertaining to the coal mining industry
  • Essential Certificate IV Occupation Health and Safety – Minimum
  • Desirable Return to Work Coordinators Certificate
  • Desirable  Manage First Aid
  • Desirable Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
