The Coppabella and Moorvale Mines are open-cut operations located approximately 140 kilometres south-west of Mackay.  We are seeking an outstanding individual with the relevant experience to join the Peabody team as a Coal Quality Reconciliation Engineer/ Geologist on a permanent full time basis.

About the role:
Reporting to the Products & Revenue Superintendent, you will be responsible for optimising the value of the open cut coal resource through the preparation and communication of agreed coal and parting extraction plans, schedules; along with the reconciliation of geological data, provision of geological advice and coal sampling. This is to ensure quality specifications and recovery targets are met to maximize coal throughput, yield and quality at Coppabella and Moorvale.  You will be part of a small but dynamic team contributing to the successful performance of the mine. 
Duties will include:

  • Ensuring a safe work environment is maintained through demonstrated commitment to safe behaviours.
  • Provide geological advice to Operators and Supervisors in the field to mine quality tonnes.
  • Monitoring quality on a shift basis throughout the coal handling process.
  • Embed processes to maximize coal recovery and minimize coal dilution through effective mining techniques.
  • Support Mining Engineers and CHPP personnel.
  • Complying with the coal quality sign off procedure to ensure clean coal mining.  Forward planning of coal quality and quantity to enable contract specifications to be met. This includes maintaining 3 to 12 month production and stockpile schedules.
  • Coordination of blending requirements where necessary to ensure that customer’s shipments match specifications.
  • Support Coppabella Moorvale Joint Venture logistics personnel, marketing and coal quality representatives to deliver sales and stocks. 
  • Reconciliation of geological model vs. actual mined.
  • Managing all aspects of coal quality including ROM and product stockpile reconciliations.
  • Monitor the wash plant performance and reconcile the coal quality to ensure maximum plant yield is achieved through effective mining process.

About the candidate:
The successful candidate will have tertiary qualifications in geology or mining engineering coupled with at least 2 years’ experience in a similar role and at least 5 years in an open cut mining operation.  Furthermore, you will have experience in mine planning software Vulcan / Geological Data Entry and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets / databases. 
Your strong communication skills, “can do” attitude and demonstrated commitment to safety will ensure your success in this role.
