An opportunity exists for an experienced Health & Safety Specialist to join our Coppabella Moorvale Joint Venture (CMJV) team at Moorvale Mine. Our Coppabella Moorvale mine complex consists of two open-cut mine operations located approximately 140 kilometres southwest of Mackay that produce premium low-volatile pulverized coal (LV-PCI) for export markets.
 
About the Role? 
Reporting to the Health, Safety & Training Manager, you will be primarily based at our Moorvale Mine, responsible for driving safety and training performance. You will be part of a small but dynamic team championing a strong safety and training culture across site. This role is a Monday to Friday dayshift roster and your responsibilities will also include: 
  • Leading a culture that promotes safety as a way of life
  • Delivering and monitoring safety and health strategies and initiatives
  • Ensuring incidents are investigated with actions closed out in a timely manner
  • Coaching and providing advice on compliance with all safety legislation and Peabody SAWOL processes and procedures
  • Facilitating risk assessments, safety audits and ICAMs
  • Ensuring activities on site are carried out in accordance with the Safety and Health Management System requirements
  • Maintaining the safety and health system to ensure compliance with relevant industry standards
About You
  • Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety with a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
  • Proven experience as a H&S Specialist preferably within mining or heavy industry
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety as a way of life
  • 3+ years of experience in a similar role within mining or heavy industry
  • Thorough understanding of risk management principles and extensive experience working with safety and health systems, auditing, incident reporting and incident investigation
  • To be successful in this role you will possess a "can do" attitude and have a strong commitment to cultural change initiatives
