About the role:
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Production Technical Superintendent to join our Wilpinjong Mine.  Our Wilpinjong mine is an open-cut mine located 50 kilometres northeast of Mudgee producing a high quality thermal coal for export and domestic markets.
We are looking for a technically savvy applicant with strong planning and scheduling skills and excellent overall business acumen.  Reporting to the Mine Manager, this role will be responsible for planning and scheduling support, and ensuring production targets are achieved in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner.  Your strong leadership style will assist you to lead and coach production supervisors to drive a high performance culture focused on safety and operating discipline.  The successful applicant will also have the qualifications and desire to aspire to the Mine Manager role in the long term.
Responsibilities in this position include:
  • Demonstrate and drive high health, safety and environmental standards, ensuring all practices are in accordance with statutory and regulatory requirements and company policies and procedures
  • Lead and participate in incident investigations in your areas of responsibility
  • Provide practical input into operational designs, and production schedules
  • Effectively forecast resource requirements to ensure future production targets are achieved
  • Oversee and coordinate the mining activities to ensure that the production schedule is followed and targets are met in a safe and cost effective manner
  • Establish and maintain mining standards in all areas including drill and blast, dozer push, excavator and truck haulroad design, work areas and dumps
  • Effectively liaise with the maintenance department to identify maintenance requirements and collaboratively develop a plan to ensure targets are met
  • Report on daily production results and key performance indicators to the management team.
  • Encourage reporting of all damage to plant and equipment, analyse and deal with the underlying cause as a possible lead indicator for site safety awareness
  • Provide strong leadership to drive a high-performance based culture, reinforce behaviours that will underpin the success of the mine site and hold people accountable to deliver
  • Set and maintain clear accountabilities for team and direct reports
  • Accountable for reporting production data, coordination of end of month data reconciliations, and monitoring production costs to ensure budgets are met.
  • Benchmark results, processes and strategies with other sites, across the industry. 
About the candidate:
  • Proven record of an uncompromising commitment to safety
  • Extensive experience in a similar role in open cut mining operations
  • Proven record of high achievement in safety and production
  • Sound knowledge of open cut coal mining processes  including drill and blast, dozer push, excavator and truck haulage, coal quality controls
  • Extensive experience in mine planning and scheduling techniques
  • Experience in Contractor Management Systems
  • Well-developed communication, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Strong management and leadership experience
