Why Join Us?
An opportunity exists for an experienced Health and Safety Superintendent to join our Wambo Mine. Our Wambo mine complex is a combined open-cut and underground mine located 30kms west of Singleton that produce metallurgical and thermal coal for export and domestic markets. 

About the role:
Reporting to the Health Safety & Training Manager, you will provide advice and services to line management in the application of SAWOL MS and WHS practices as well as mange the Health programs & Injury Management across the entire Wambo complex.
Responsibilities will include:
  • Proactive approach to managing safety on site and actively demonstrating safety leadership
  • Delivering and monitoring safety and health strategies
  • Ensuring incidents are investigated with actions closed out in a timely manner
  • Coaching and providing advice on compliance with all safety legislation and Peabody SAWOL processes and procedures
  • Facilitating risk assessments and safety audits
  • Work to maintain budget and cost controls required for the HST department
  • Ensuring activities on site are carried out in accordance with the Safety and Health Management System requirements
  • Maintaining the safety and health system to ensure compliance with relevant industry standards
  • Liaising with contractors and subcontractors on safety and health matters
  • Designing, developing, preparing and conducting health and safety training
  • Manage the Return to Work specialist and oversee the injury management responsibilities of the entire Wambo complex
About you:
Ideally the successful candidate will have a degree in Occupational Health and Safety or an Occupational Health related discipline, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role within the mining industry.  You will have a thorough understanding of risk management principles and a G2 and/or G3 Risk Management qualification along with extensive experience in safety and health systems, auditing and incident reporting and investigation. To be successful in the role you will possess a “can do” attitude and have a strong commitment to cultural change initiatives.
