An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Gas Drainage Engineer to join our North Goonyella Coal (NGC) Mine.  North Goonyella Coal Mine is an underground longwall mine located 160 kilometers west of Mackay producing a premium quality, high strength coking coal for export markets.

About the Role:
Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will be responsible for driving safety performance, while supporting the Longwall and Development to achieve production targets. 
This is a statutory position and includes the following responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement the systems, standards and process procedures for people working in Gas Drainage areas.
  • Implement and monitor programs to stabilise and improve scheduling of materials and people’s work so it is well integrated into the mine plan.
  • Lead the Gas Drainage team making teamwork, analysis and continuous improvement a key part of achieving business goals
  • In collaboration with the Mine Manager develop 1 year and 5 year development plans allowing budgets for both capital and operating costs.
  • Demonstrate a detailed understanding of relevant costs and analyse to achieve optimal outcomes for the complex 
  • Identify significant variances from budgeted costs & escalate issues and solutions to the General Manager
  • Meet unit cost budget
  • Ensure that assets are managed effectively to achieve budget utilisation rates
  • Operational Management of contractors used on site

About You:
  • Drive a strong safety and risk management focus
  • Mining Engineer or Geologist Degree 
  • Workplace Training and Assessing and G3 Risk Management Certificates desirable
  • Knowledge of statutory requirements and understanding of health and safety legislation
  • Knowledge of hazard management process
  • Knowledge of gas characteristics as they relate to an underground coal mining operation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Experience using SAP/Vulcan is highly desirable
