Primary Objective:

To assist NTCAT and all NTCAT clients by providing an efficient and effective Registry that includes administrative and

service support.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

? Assist the Tribunal Manager in the effective management of case processing and counter/inquiry functions.

? Ensure all matters are processed efficiently and accurately.

? Undertake the processing and scheduling of matters across all NTCAT jurisdictions.

? Prepare required NTCAT documentation, such as requests for reports and adjournment notices, using the NTCAT

case management system or the Integrated Justice Information System (IJIS). Input and update data into the

NTCAT information/case management system.

? Provide assistance and practical advice to the public, legal practitioners, Government agencies and other clients of

NTCAT as required and particularly in relation to more complex matters.

? Where appropriate (and while not providing legal advice) explain simple NTCAT orders to relevant persons,

including the consequences of non-compliance.

? Perform counter duties, including taking money for the payment of NTCAT fees for applications, complaints,

summonses and lodgement of various documents.

? Provide sound procedural advice to all NTCAT clients either in person or by phone.

? Assist with other duties as directed by the Tribunal Manager or Registrar.

Selection Criteria:


1. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills appropriate for working in a legal environment dealing

with a broad range of clients including interacting with people from diverse cultures.

2. Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised in a pressured, high volume environment, to meet deadlines.

3. Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation such as the Northern Territory Civil and Administrative Tribunal Act,

Mental Health and Related Services Act, and the Residential Tenancies Act.

4. Ability to gain a thorough working knowledge of case management systems, including the Integrated Justice

Information System (IJIS), office software packages and experience in the use of technical communications

equipment such as video conferencing.

5. Ability to interpret NTCAT President or other member’s order/s, enter orders into the NTCAT information/case

management system and prepare all required documentation including summonses.


1. Applied knowledge and understanding of NTCAT practices, procedures, legislation and rules or the ability to readily

acquire such knowledge and understanding.
