Primary Objective:

Provide specialist technical advice and information to senior management on the development, review and

implementation of weed and fire management programs for vacant Crown land across the Northern Territory and ensure

programs meet government responsibilities in regard to Crown land.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provide specialist technical advice and information to senior management on the development, review and

implementation of weed and fire management programs for vacant Crown land across the Northern Territory

and ensure programs meet government responsibilities in regard to Crown land.

2. Ensure weed and fire management are undertaken on Crown land in accordance with the Weed Management Act,

Fire and Emergency Act and Bushfires Act.

3. In consultation with relevant stakeholders, implement, manage and review the Crown Land Weed Management

Strategy for the Department of Lands and Planning and Regional Weed Management Plans.

4. Undertake weed surveys and monitoring throughout the Northern Territory, including collection and

management of weed spatial data.

Selection Criteria:

Essential

1. A relevant qualification awarded by an Australian institution, or equivalent; or relevant experience in a field of

technical work closely related to the duties of the vacancy.

2. Demonstrated ability to provide technical advice and information to senior management on the development,

review and implementation of weed and fire management programs for vacant Crown land across the Northern

Territory.

3. Strong project and contract management skills.

4. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and the ability to liaise and negotiate with

representatives of both private and public sectors.

5. High level of computer skills and experience with GPS devices, GIS software and spatial data management.

6. Demonstrated skills in interpreting and applying legislation, including a working knowledge of the Crown Lands

Act, Native Title Act, Weed Management Act, Fire and Emergency Act and Bushfires Act (or similar legislation).

7. An ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures.
