Senior Urban Planner- Metro Product Integration

Sydney Metro is Australia’s biggest public transport project. A new standalone railway, this 21st century network will deliver 31 metro stations and more than 65 kilometres of new metro rail for Australia’s biggest city. This mega-project will revolutionise the way Sydney travels.

The opportunity

We have an opportunity for a Senior Urban Planner to be a part of our Metro Product and Integration Team within Sydney Metro. This position plays a key role to support the delivery of specialist advice on urban planning for Sydney Metro projects to ensure corridor, station and precinct planning is integrated and consistent with the overall project objectives. This role reports to the Senior Manager Urban Planning.


The Senior Urban Planner will:

  • Assist the Senior Manager Urban Planning develop preliminary advice around urban planning to provide to the station design and over station development design teams.
  • Provide input as required into a range of commercial and precinct development processes including interchange plans, precinct plans and corridor land use strategies to inform and support decision making.
  • Develop networks with Councils, Department of Planning and Environment, and Urban Growth NSW as relevant to ensure the building of collaborative working relationships and to maintain knowledge of legislative and regulatory planning requirements.
  • Participate, as a member of the Urban Planning team reviewing planning proposals and supporting the progression of priority precincts with the Department of Planning and Environment to ensure a consistent and coordinated approach to urban planning activities and support the urban planning team in the management of merit based review of development applications and planning proposals along the Sydney Metro rail corridor.

We are looking Senior Urban Planner who is up-to-date with recent legislative and statutory urban planning requirements coupled with a sound understanding of overall project objectives for the delivery of effective transport solutions and balancing these against the needs and interests of various precinct stakeholders, preferably with experience in the government sector.

Essential requirements
  • Tertiary education in a relevant discipline or equivalent industry experience
  • Extensive experience in urban planning in transport fields, major development or for major infrastructure
  • Up to date knowledge of transport planning issues and trends and the NSW Government's overall transport and planning and land use planning objectives
TfNSW Grade 8: 109,589 -  $122,739 plus superannuation and leave loading
