Sydney Metro is Australia’s biggest public transport project. A new standalone railway, this 21st century network will deliver 31 metro stations and more than 65 kilometres of new metro rail for Australia’s biggest city. This mega-project will revolutionise the way Sydney travels.

The opportunity

We have an opportunity for a Director Commercial Project Delivery to be a part of our City and Southwest team within Sydney Metro. The primary responsiblityof the role is to be the commercial lead on the procurement and commercial management during construction of the major project delivery contracts associated within the City and Southwest (C&SW) project. There is expected to be up to twelve delivery major contracts ranging in value from $100m  to over - $2 billion , potentially  including a PPP contract and a number of design and construct type contracts for the Sydney Metro C&SW  Project along with a number of major Service Provider contracts. This position reports  to the Project Director City and Southwest.  

The role leads the commercial activities across the project and provides management, leadership, professional and high level technical guidance and commercial advice in all fields of contracts and procurement, ensuring compliance with government guidelines, policy and industry best practice. The position is a key member of the executive City and Southwest Leadership team


The role also includes the management of contractors and service providers, providing procurement, commercial and financial advice during the development, procurement and delivery phase.


You will be responsible for the C&SW large commercial team and its range of specialists including a mixture of staff, contractors and delivery partners to achieve best practice contract documentation and commercial delivery.

You will lead and manage the development and procurement of the project’s major works contracts, including the engagement of transaction management services as required, and the management of cross-functional input to the procurement process, and lead successful procurement processes for the major contracts to ensure compliance with the policies and management systems of the Delivery Office, Transport for NSW and the NSW Government

We are looking for a leader who has extensive Commercial/ Legal experience in the development , procurement delivery phases of complex infrastructure projects.,

Essential requirements
  • Tertiary qualification in either a Legal, Engineering, Construction, Project Management, Business Administration or related discipline from a recognised tertiary institution, or equivalent experience
  • Extensive commercial experience in the development, procurement and delivery of complex, infrastructure, services and operations projects
  • Experience in a range of procurement models including Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) as well as traditional Design and Construct (D&C) and relationship contracting frameworks
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of government protocols for procurement and contract management
  • This role is identified as a Rail Safety Worker (RSW).
