The Group:

The Industrial Relations Group comprises NSW Industrial Relations (NSW IR) and the Long Service Corporation (LSC).  As the lead NSW public sector employer, we provide strategic policy advice to the Government on Public Sector Industrial Relations issues.  We also administer NSW laws regulating shop trading hours, public holidays, long service leave and the delivery of a comprehensive range of compliance activities.

About the Role:

An opportunity exists in the role of Manager, Public Sector Industrial Relations within NSW Industrial Relations group of NSW Treasury which leads and manages a team of industrial relations professionals to support delivery of NSW Government and Treasury objectives. 


In this role you will support the NSW Government by providing high quality industrial relations advice to public sector agencies, the executive of Treasury and the Minister for Industrial Relations. You will contribute to the development of government policies and the coordination of reform projects in agencies and across the NSW public sector where projects can apply to more than 300,000 employees across the state.

You will contribute to the strategic direction of workforce matters as a member of the NSW IR senior management group and have the opportunity to mentor and manage a small team of advisors who provide strategic and operational advice on significant policy and industrial relations matters.

You will be accountable for a range of work including responsibility for the management and resolution of whole of sector industrial issues and be required apply a solutions focused and practical approach to achieving the Government’s priorities. The team environment is supportive and will provide an excellent development opportunity in a management role. The knowledge, skills and experience you gain in this central government role will position you well to pursue further advancement across the NSW public sector. 


Key Challenges:

 

  • Undertake high-level analysis from a range of internal and external sources to provide the Director and Executive Director with strategic, timely advice on complex and sensitive matters.
  • Coordinate the preparation of submissions, briefings and related supporting documents in connection with the planning, monitoring and reports on operations and deliverables.
  • Developing strong and collaborative relationships with stakeholders including public sector industrial/employee relations and human resource professionals and relevant unions to facilitate information exchange, and to support resolution of industrial relations issues.
  • Developing industrial relations initiatives and strategies to meet the changing and dynamic needs of stakeholders.
  • Representing the interests of government in meeting, negotiations and before industrial tribunals.
