Position Information

Ashtonfield Public School is a large primary school (620) which caters for a diverse range of learners from various, economic, ethnic, religious and social backgrounds, the FOEI in 2017 is 83. Over 5% of students are Aboriginal, 4% are of non-English speaking backgrounds and there are a significant number of defence families in the school community.

The school currently has an excellent creative and performing arts program including band, choir and Startstruck. The school pursues extra-curricular activities for all students. Current literacy/numeracy programs include TEN, Reading Recovery as well as Learning Support programs.

The school is supported by an active P&C and has an on-site OOSH. School facilities are made available for community use.


Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria

1. Proven success in visibly leading and unifying all key stakeholders in a large school with a shared vision and direction

2. A visible, approachable and consultative leader with knowledge and experience applying ethical practice and social skills to effectively resolve conflict and build trust throughout the school

3. Ability to demonstrate advanced educational leadership and deliver a unified and consistent approach to evidence based pedagogy and practice

4. Successful history leading improvement innovation and change.

General Selection Criteria

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2017 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P3 for 2017 and 2018.
