Workers Compensation Commission (WCC)

  • Ongoing (permanent) role based in Sydney 
  • Salary range $125,714 - $128,178 (Legal Officer Grade 5)

Who are we?
The Workers Compensation Commission  resolves workers compensation disputes between injured workers and employers.

We resolve and determine disputes about workers compensation claims, for example, weekly compensation for loss of income, payment of medical expenses and compensation for permanent impairment/pain and suffering.

We encourage parties (workers, employers and insurers) to discuss ways of resolving the dispute at all stages of the process. 


About the role

As a Senior Lawyer, you will provide professional legal services to the Commission and manage the publication of legal research materials and the currency of the Commission’s legal practice manuals. You will undertake legal and statutory decision-making functions of the Registrar under delegation.

Key Responsibilities;
  • Provide accurate, relevant and timely legal advice, services and briefings on complex matters involving legislative interpretation and review, government law and policy, administrative law, applications under Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009, privacy complaints, practice manuals updates, management of judicial review applications, review of practice and procedure and policy documents, rules review, legal contributions to bulletins, case updates, mentoring
  • Provide clear, concise legal advice across a range of complex legal issues
  • Work flexibly and collaboratively with internal clients, complete tasks and develop solutions to ensure business objectives are met within legislative frameworks
  • Identify and report on emerging and significant legal issues that may impact the business or on matters presenting reputational risk to the business
  • Provide legal education to the business, other government agencies and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with the business on strategic and operational projects, processes and system review, guidance and training materials
  • Maintain up to date and comprehensive resource materials for the Commission’s members and legal and medical professionals

Salary Grade V Legal Officer maximum salary up to $128,178 Package includes salary [$125,714 - $128,178] and employer’s contribution to superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience.
