  • A casual rate of $29.47 per hour (plus loading, shift allowances and/or penalty rates)
  • Required to work shifts between Monday to Friday (8am – 4pm)
About us

Juvenile Justice NSW supervises and provides custodial and community-based services for youth on remand or on control orders. We aim to work with young offenders to reduce their reoffending, rehabilitate and return them to society.

About the role 

The Youth Officer (Courts and Logistics) escorts, transports and supervises Juvenile detainees from Juvenile Justice NSW’s Centres to various Court locations. The Youth Officer will: 
  • Support and supervise young people in order to ensure that all their needs are met during the time that they are in their custody
  • Respond to challenging situations to maintain a safe and secure environment for young people and the public
  • Proactively avert risk and solve problems 
  • Drive vehicles and escort young people
  • Work in accordance with relevant department legislation, policies and procedures

Being able to adapt to changing situations and to think and solve problems on your feet will see you successfully navigate through the varying challenges and opportunities that occur on a daily basis. In this job, no one day is the same.

Youth Officers are part of a big supportive team and your ability to work in a team and support colleagues under various circumstances, will ensure a safe and positive work environment for you and your colleagues. As part of this you role, you will liaise and build relationships across other agencies like Police or the Sheriff’s Office.

Essential Requirements:
•  Possession or willingness to obtain the ‘Apply First Aid Certificate’ (HLTAID003).
•  Possession of a minimum Provisional 2 NSW Driver’s licence
•  Possession or willingness to gain a MR license
•  NSW Working With Children Check Clearance
• Availability to complete an initial 2 week intensive training program and then complete short training blocks over the following 4 months. Between these blocks  shifts will be offered to you on a casual basis so you can develop your skills in a team environment with the support of your supervisor.
A Working With Children Check is a pre-requisite for this position. It is an offence under the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012 for a barred person to apply for this position.   If successful in this role you will be required to provide a Working with Children Check clearance number prior to commencing in the role.
