Assistant Facilities Manager, Scienceworks

Australia’s largest public museum organisation is seeking an Assistant Facilities Manager to coordinate the delivery of designated facilities services for the Scienceworks Museum Precinct.


Museum Victoria cares for the State scientific and cultural collections, providing visitor access, activities and events at five distinct venues: Melbourne Museum, Immigration Museum, Scienceworks, IMAX Cinema and world heritage listed Royal Exhibition Building.

The position is accountable for ensuring that the Scienceworks Museum Precinct’s buildings, grounds, and services are maintained and operate at a level which is fit for purpose, safe and sustainable.

Notable skills and experiences:

The successful applicant will have:

  • A current understanding of workplace Occupational Health and Safety; including associated regulations and legislation.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and customer service skills which can be applied to the co-operative achievement of building maintenance projects and issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent the organisation’s interests when negotiating with contractors, consultants and others regarding repairs and maintenance and minor capital works.
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to produce business documents such as procurement documentation, reports and procedures.
  • A demonstrable knowledge of project management principles and processes; including an ability to set priorities, organise and delegate tasks and take responsibility for own performance.
  • Experience in the use and application of facilities or building management technologies.
  • A working knowledge of software packages including Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, and Outlook. Exposure to AutoCAD would be an advantage.
  • A current elevated work platform and forklift licence, or willingness & capacity to undertake relevant training and accreditation.


This is a full time; ongoing position. The salary on offer is $63,629 (Base of Grade) + 9.5% superannuation.
