Job description:

Metro Trains operates and maintains Melbourne’s busy suburban train network. Successfully transporting over 400 000 passengers per day is achieved by our large dedicated workforce. The Infrastructure Division is at the forefront of maintaining and renewing our network and is currently seeking a Production Manger to join the Electrical Networks Team.

The Production Manager Overhead Maintenance is responsible for assisting the Overhead Maintenance Manager with planning and managing staff, plant and equipment resources to ensure 100% on time delivery of the overhead technical maintenance plan.  


The tasks required include:

  • Undertake planning, management and supervision of resource to ensure 100% on time delivery of the Overhead Technical Maintenance Plan.
  • Produce and provide regular reports to the Overhead Maintenance Manager on all aspects of work in progress, planned or completed
  • Attend major system failures during and after normal hours and supervise staff in the restoration of services
  • Ensure correct tools and equipment are appropriately audited, certified, maintained and utilised for work and all equipment, materials and emergency items are assembled and accessible on the job
  • Implement overhead maintenance requirements and installation methods
  • Liaise and negotiate with client groups, other departments and external authorities for MTM works so that safe and efficient train running is not compromised

Qualification, skills and experience:

  • Certificate III in ESI - Rail Traction (desirabe) or
  • Certificate III in ESI - Distribution (desirable) or
  • Degree or qualifications in Electrical Engineering or
  • Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrican (grade 'A' Electrician)
  • Supervisory experience in overhead maintenance/construction (desirable)
  • Supervisory experience  in HV electrical maintenance/construction (desirable)
  • Planning experience in  in maintenance construction environment (Microsoft project,Primavera P6)
