Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) is a multi-award winning organisation and we pride ourselves on our team of high performing professionals who are talented, inclusive and safety focused.

We are currently seeking a Risk & System Safety Assurance Advisor for work on our Level Crossing Removal Project. This large-scale project will benefit train users, pedestrians, cyclists and drivers by improving safety, reducing congestion and enabling more frequent train services.

In this role, you will support the implementation and control of Metro’s risk management and system safety assurance processes and strategies to nominated projects in order to identify and minimize all forms of risk and maximise opportunities.


• Develop and maintain a Master Change Register covering all facets of risk including safety, financial, operational, environmental reputational, design and construction.
• Ensure that staff and contractors have an awareness of the importance of risk management and comply with all legal obligations and Metro policies, procedures and guidelines.
• Management of MTM’s System Safety Assurance requirements at the project level.
• Review of project System Safety Assurance documentation to ensure alignment with the MTM System Safety Assurance Procedure and SFAIRP principles.

To be successful in the role, your previous experience will include:

• A tertiary qualification in a suitable field is required.
• Working knowledge of safety-related standards, including ISO31000, ISO31010, EN50126, EN50128 and EN50129.
• Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative Hazard identification techniques such as Structured What-if Technique (SWIFT) or equivalent (e.g. HAZOP).
• Experience in development of hazard analysis documentation (PHA / SHA / IHA / QRA / OSHA) is preferred.
• Hazard Log management (IBM Rational DOORS or equivalent).
