What will you do as an IBM BigData Engineer Consultant?
IBM is seeking Big Data Engineers with technical experience in building scalable distributed software on the cloud that will combine cognitive computing/Watson technology with traditional data engineering/science and apply it at scale to transform enterprise business processes. The ideal candidate will also be able to modify a traditional open-source or other data stack to incorporate cognition. Successful candidates should come from a strong data engineering background and need to have experience with un-structured and structured data and being able to transform and analyze the data using various tools. We are building new platforms, and may need to move our data to new technologies requiring data parity guarantees between new and old feeds.
Our opportunities are to provide business insights to IBM clients through innovative solutions and services for both structured and unstructured data.
  • Your expertise is working with structured data; apply methods, technologies and techniques that address data architecture, integration and governance of data. Utilize experience in database concepts, data modelling; data integration including design and architecture. Master data management, including customer data strategy, product data strategy and organizational hierarchy, and Information (data) Governance including strategy, implementation, business glossary, metadata analysis and proving hands on business knowledge working with database developers, DBA's architects, data quality analysts, and other teams while seamlessly managing client relationships within context of individual role.
  • Your expertise is working with unstructured data; ability to apply semantic correlation, ontology and text analytics techniques and systems to analyse non-structured data and identify critical insights for overall business analytics across various domains. Experience in analysing text, streams, documents, social media, speech and video with emerging Hadoop-based big data, NoSQL, National Language Processing, Search and Text analytics technologies and techniques. Possess solid skills in Java, C++, Python, Spark or SCALA development and a good understanding of working with Hadoop.
The Candidate shall:
  • Possess required skills and education/ Bachelor degree required
  • 3+ years’ technical and critical thinking skills
  • 3+ years’ experience of service oriented architecture (SOA) principles and Web services standards and best practices
  • Capability to architect highly scalable distributed systems using open source tools and big data technologies such as Hadoop, HBase, Spark, Storm, etc
  • 3+ years’ experience as a software architect designing and delivering large scale distributed software systems, preferably in large scale global business
  • Experience in cloud-based agile, devops experience with PaaS & IaaS
  • Experience using Big Data batch and streaming tools
  • Ability to define, apply and evangelize advanced software patterns and standards to solve complex problems
  • Experience with SQL, NoSQL, relational database design, and methods for efficiently retrieving data
  • Gather and process raw data at scale (including writing scripts, web scraping, calling APIs, write SQL queries, etc.)
  • Experience programming in Java, Scala, Python, SQL
  • Build prototypes or POCs where needed, to validate technical approach
  • Maintain and grow a working knowledge of technology innovation trends and the applicability of practices to the implementation of such technologies as IoT, Blockchain, Cognitive and Advanced Analytics.
  • Expect interstate and international travel, including sustained periods of Fly-in/Fly-out (FIFO) engagements within Australia, estimated to be up to 70% of the year.
  • Be required to submit for Defence security clearance (baseline) and potentially at NV or PV level.
