Job description:

About Us
Guild Group’s technology team supports the company’s three key business units - Guild Insurance, Acerta, and Guild Trustee Services. We are adaptive, responsive, agile, and always seeking out ways to make our solutions more robust and flexible.

Are you still reading this section? I’m impressed. Actually, prove you read it all by including something in your application somewhere…Let’s see…How about you add a section to your application where you explain which fictional character you would be and why?

The Role
So what is it we want you to do? You’ll pretty much be an end to end Developer, doing all sorts of interesting and varied things. That’s kind of cool because it gives you a chance to find the part of development you really like. Everyone has that part of development that they could do for hours and never get bored of, and finding your ‘Holy rogue semicolon, Batman! This is the best!’ means trying lots of stuff. Well, believe me; we have stuff by the bucket load for you to try.

System Integration stuff? Check.
Defect investigation stuff? Check.
Architecture and design stuff? Check.
Green fields development stuff? Check.
Automation stuff? Check.

Legit, so many different options.

Why join us?
Let’s not kid ourselves, the number one reason for you is either delicious cash dollars or so you can get your relatives off your back with their ‘when are you going to put that degree to use’. But, once you have the whole ‘money to live on’ thing down and can afford to fund your smashed avo addiction, you’ll find the next best reason is simply for the experience. This job is end to end; you work with the business, the BA’s, the testers. The whole nine yards. Not many places give you such a diverse range of experience. It also means there are a bunch of opportunities for you to move across to other areas if you find them more interesting, too.

Plus, you get to be part of a solid team of people. My co-workers are in fact my favourite part of this job, which I assure you is a nice change from the old ‘go to work - work in silence - go home’ rinse and repeat paradigm. Can recommend work buddies. They are a good time.

About You
We need someone who is motivated and just generally pumped to be a Developer. You have to be ambitious, creative, have a positive attitude, and a penchant for logical thinking. Our team is pretty cosy for the size of the business, so we need people who can find the problem and fix it fast, in a way that doesn’t haunt us six months later. You also have to be team orientated and capable of working autonomously, and audacious enough to step up and drive innovation. Ideally, you’ll be familiar with agile and scrum methodologies, which I assume they cover at some point during university, and you’ll need to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge in the following:

Java, JavaScript, HTML and related technologies
Open Source Technologies such as Eclipse, Hibernate, Tomcat
Spring, AngularJS, and Web technologies
XML, Webservices, SOAP and JSON, and Messaging
DBMS and SQL

As far as bonus points go the following aren’t really required, but it would be pretty cool if you have experience in multi-channel digital environments or social media integration, so mention those on your resume if you have. Also, experience with continuous development tools such as Hudson, Ant, Maven, Selenium will also be highly regarded.

Next Steps
If this ad sounds vaguely appealing to you then you should probably submit your details online so we can peruse your resume. Also, heads up, despite the overall tone of this job advert you do need to be capable of being vaguely professional at times. Just thought I’d throw that one out there now so you don’t show up to the interview in your finest stay-at-home-playing-games-all-day attire.
