Energex and Ergon Energy run one of the largest electricity networks in the western world and employ thousands of people right around Queensland. We connect and supply electricity to 2.1 million customers, powering communities from Tweed Heads up to the Torres Strait, and from Brisbane across to Birdsville covering 1.7 million kilometres. We are at the forefront of embracing new technology, new ideas, alternative energy solutions and smart grid technology. We are building the network of the future to power Queensland’s economy and we are looking for passionate people.

An apprenticeship at Ergon Energy or Energex is never dull and is very rewarding. You can join in one location, and soon enough, you could be on your way to experiencing a range of training experiences in another part of the state. An apprenticeship can also be an attractive alternative to tertiary studies, with your career and salary starting from day one. Your opportunities are only limited by your imagination, passion and motivation to succeed in your career. Not only will you be working with Australia’s largest energy supplier, you will also become a qualified tradesperson whilst being part of a team that contributes to making a difference to the way power is supplied in our communities. We value people who work safely, think creatively, embrace diversity and want to engage to listen, learn and expand their knowledge.

The apprenticeships we offer vary and can include:

  • Apprentice Electrician
  • Communications Technician
  • Distribution Linesperson
  • Mechanical Tradesperson (Diesel Fitting)
  • Transmission Linesperson

We will offer you:

  • 9 day fortnight, a long weekend every fortnight allowing for an excellent work-life balance
  • Supply uniforms and tools, personal protective equipment including helmets, hats, glasses, gloves, safety boots, etc.
  • Fully paid subject course fees and text books
  • Fully paid travel and accommodation for training (as applicable)
  • 3 month rotational placements throughout the organisation, giving you exposure to different specialisations and parts of the business including working alongside domestic contractors.
  • Learn how to install and maintain high-voltage electrical equipment in substations, as well as how to install the wiring and equipment pertaining to our systems.
  • Opportunity to work for Energy Queensland’s high-voltage customers that include Powerlink, electricity generation companies and the mines.
  • Living away from home allowance (as applicable)
  • Support and mentoring during the program
  • Vast career options when you complete your apprenticeship

We provide attractive salaries for our apprentices and an indication of rates is listed below for you.
