Job description:

The Analytics team at Cover-More maintains all group data assets and runs the stack from warehousing to reporting. The role will be joining the team to manage the data platforms our travel insurance, medical assistance and employee assistance businesses rely upon for insight into business performance.

Our Data Architects work closely with system owners across the group to build ETLs and design databases that bring together disparate operational systems. They develop master data for the organisation as well as helping our Analytics Developers build complex models.

Key Accountabilities include:

Data Warehousing (60%)

  • Maintain operational integrity of the data warehouse
  • Contribute to the roadmap for data repositories
  • Formulate target data architecture to support reporting functions
  • Create ETL packages and routinely monitor load performance
  • SQL development to design complex data models: stored procedures, functions, tables, views and triggers

Data Governance (20%)

  • Implement Data Governance Strategy
  • Develop specific controls to ensure data quality and provide guidance to the governance group
  • Troubleshoot upstream data issues together with system owners

Data Modelling (20%)

  • Guarantee availability of reporting views and multidimensional self-service models
  • Construct complex models for analytical purposes

Personal Specifications

As an expert in curating data, you enjoy finding new data sources that give insight into business drivers. You have hands-on experience storing, organising and transforming data with a multitude of established data platforms. In fact, you do it so often SQL is almost a second language.

Conceptually, you have a strong understanding of how data models can be designed for reporting and analytical purposes. With a collaborative nature, you’re eager to understand how colleagues use those models so you can optimise data flows.

The ideal candidate will need to have tertiary qualifications in an Information Technology discipline such as Computer Science or Software Engineering. You are also required to have experience in a data management related role for a minimum of 5 years, with proficiency in:

  • Data warehousing with MS SQL (TSQL). Working knowledge of other structured/unstructured platforms is a plus.
  • ETL development (SSIS)
  • SDLC, particularly Agile methodology
  • Scripting (XQuery, JSON, Java, Python)
  • Database design and optimisation
  • Building master data
  • Data governance with a focus on data quality
