Reporting to the Manager Port Production, within the Port Production team your duties will include:

  • Demonstrate commitment and conformance to the BHP Billiton Charter, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations
  • Demonstrate and instil an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development
  • Lead the team in undertaking technical analysis of Port fixed plant and shipping performance
  • Monitor performance of the production processes and outcomes and execute improvement projects
  • Coordinate the undertaking of process control to ensure plant production processes are predictable, stable and consistently operating at the target level of performance and within normal variation.
  • Providing strong leadership to a team of improvement professionals and meeting the Superintendent level requirements of the Operating Discipline Standard (ODS)
  • As a Section 44 Appointed Person, ensure compliance with the requirements of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act and Mines Safety Inspection Regulations
  • Set and clearly communicate targets and expectations aligned with site and department goals and BHP values
  • Accept accountability for team performance by ensuring quality of tasks, services and advice to the operation
  • Lead the optimal resourcing of the section and ensure that the simplification of systems and processes are core priorities
  • Lead, coach and mentor employees to deliver on plan and build a high performing team
  • Develop budgets and forecasts for the Production A&I area and assist with the creation of overall department budget
  • Regularly monitor area expenditure/trends and put remedial controls in place to meet budget requirements
  • Demonstrated safety leadership to promote a culture of zero harm


Skills and Experience

As the successful candidate you will possess the following:

  • Tertiary qualification in Process Engineering or Metallurgy, Trade qualification or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience in a large scale fixed plant operation would be advantageous
  • Experience leading and mentoring teams and an ability to provide leadership and development teams is essential
  • Project Management experience is desirable
  • A proven track record of safety management.
  • Working knowledge of Mine Safety & Inspection Act & Regulations



In this residential role you will be based in the coastal town of Port Hedland, Western Australia. Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia.  The 20,000-strong population enjoys well-established education services, entertainment, shopping and medical facilities.


The excellent sporting and leisure facilities include; a new aquatic centre, sports stadium and water play park. Its beaches and mangroves are home to an abundance of fish and other wildlife.  Within driving distance are the spectacular Broome, Karratha and Karijini national Park. As this is a residential position you will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.
