About Us

BHP Billiton Iron Ore is one of the world’s leading suppliers of iron ore. The Company’s operations currently involve an integrated system of seven inland mines, more than 1,000 kilometres of rail and two separate port facilities; Nelson Point and Finucane Island at Port Hedland.

 

Position

Reporting to the Inflow Maintenance Co-ordinator, within the Finucane Island Maintenance team your duties will include:

  • Ensure all engineering projects comply with statutory, Australian standards and BHPIO safety standards
  • Monitoring and control of work management strategies and processes. Ensuring that work management compliance KPI targets are met
  • Build and develop equipment maintenance strategies for all equipment within the operation.
  • Own all associated task lists and work instructions and ensure these are accurately documented and updated into 1SAP
  • Produce the operating standards, scope of work, procedures and work instructions
  • Initiate engineering requests on behalf of the Maintenance function to improve equipment safety and reliability, and ensure ownership of the same until completion
  • Provide technical expertise to Execution to support work quality and safe execution of maintenance work
  • Participate in root cause analysis and “failure type” reviews of plant, equipment and non-process infrastructure based on no compliance to planned availability or unpredicted failures
  • Improve reliability of fixed plant assets
  • Review  performance  and operating and maintenance  practices  to  ensure  optimum  productivity  and recommend changes to systems, procedures, work practices and policy
  • Prepare technical specifications, drawings and scope of work for capital equipment purchase and major equipment refurbishment and overseeing installation
  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Billiton Charter, the BHP Billiton Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development

 

Skills and Experience

As the successful candidate you will possess the following:

  • Mechanical Trade qualification with 5 years fixed plant experience
  • Extensive experience working within heavy industry/mining is essential (Car Dumpers and Stackers)
  • Experience with an automated plant control system.
  • High level of problem solving ability
  • Ability to build effective relationships and work across teams to achieve outcomes
  • Contract management experience in the maintenance area would be highly regarded.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office applications
  • Working knowledge of SAP1 is highly regarded
  • Minimum of C class manual drivers licence

 

Location

In this residential role you will be based in the coastal town of Port Hedland, Western Australia. Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia.  The 20,000-strong population enjoys well-established education services, entertainment, shopping and medical facilities.

 

The excellent sporting and leisure facilities include; a new aquatic centre, sports stadium and water play park. Its beaches and mangroves are home to an abundance of fish and other wildlife.  Within driving distance are the spectacular Broome, Karratha and Karijini national Park. As this is a residential position you will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.
