The John Curtin School of Medical Research, is one of Australia’s foremost medical research institutes. A unique opportunity is available for two enthusiastic early to mid-career researchers to join the School in the ACRF Department of Cancer Biology and Therapeutics headed by Prof Ross Hannan to work on an NHMRC Program grant funded project within the Cancer Therapeutics Laboratory. These positions offer the opportunity for you to participate in internationally competitive research. You will have access to state of the art FACS, microscopy, genomic platforms, high throughput drug and target screening facilities, advanced models of human cancer and strong links with clinicians at the Canberra Hospital to be involved in early phase clinical trials.

Broadly this project focuses on exploring mechanisms by which the dysregulation of ribosome biogenesis and ribosomal RNA gene transcription is monitored, maintained and regulated under various conditions and disease states. We use various models of cancersand ribosomopathies to address fundamental questions which will contribute our currant knowledge but also to the development of novel therapies.

Position 1:

To be successful in this position, you would need strong skills in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology including epigenetics, chromatin biology and gene transcription. Experience with mammalian tissue culture and animal models is desirable.

Position 2:

To be successful in this position, you would need strong skills in bioinformatics and some experience in wet lab based work. Programming and familiarity with R and Unix/linux-based operating systems, including experience in analysis of CHIPseq, RNAseq, or proteomics data is essential. Experience in molecular biology including epigenetics, chromatin biology and gene transcription would be valuable.
