Your role

You may already be a pathologist or a research scientist working in the area of disease prevention or commencing studies in this area. Now imagine overlaying that work with a rewarding career providing essential support services to the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps.

As a Scientist you'll manage a small well-equipped laboratory, applying your skills and experience to a variety of interesting tasks. As an Army Officer you’ll be an inspirational leader and mentor too.

  • If employed as a Pathology Scientist:

Your job will be to provide pathology services at home and potentially overseas, including conducting biochemical, microbiological, haematological and blood transfusion testing.

  • If employed as a Research Scientist:

You will be carrying out research aimed at protecting against and treating malaria and other vector borne diseases.

Either way, this critical work will contribute to the vital aim of ensuring members of the Australian Defence Force (and the broader community) have the very best protection and treatments possible.

Salary

Entry Requirements

If you are an Australian Citizen, you can join the Army in one of two ways:

  1. GRADUATE ENTRY

Pathology Scientists must have completed a Bachelor of Medical Science degree (exact title may vary)

Research Scientists must have completed a suitable Science degree and have relevant experience

  1. UNDERGRADUATE ENTRY

You can submit an application for sponsorship if you have completed at least one year of a four-year degree majoring in a Bachelor of Medical Science degree (exact title may vary) from a recognised tertiary institution which will enable professional membership of the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS)
