About the Role…

  • Contract: Fixed-term contract, until 30th June 2018
  • Status:    Part-time (15 hours per week)
  • Location: The Poppy Centre, Ipswich Queensland

 

The purpose of this role is to provide care to children accessing The Poppy Centre in order to promote prosocial and healthy behaviour. At times the role will supervise children while their parents participate in therapeutic and social services to improve the overall wellbeing of all members of the family.

And Responsibilities…

  • Support childrens emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
  • Observe and monitor childrens play activities
  • Operate in-house child minding services within The Poppy Centre.
  • Assist in preparing food for children and serve meals and refreshments to children.
  • Recommend or initiate other measures to influence children’s behaviour, such as caring for own clothing and picking up toys and books.
  • Develop knowledge and expertise through active learning within a team and by engaging in professional development activities.
  • Keep electronic records on individual children, including daily observations and information about activities or behaviour.
  • Assisting with the collection and recording of data and occasions of service (for playgroup/other groups)

  • Must have an individual obligation to The Poppy Centre to maintain compliance with mandatory training requirements.
  • Written and Verbal Communication – required to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders via telephone, in person, written or in electronic format.
  • Assisting and caring for others – providing support, personal care and assistance to children and families
  • Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships - Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them over time.
  • Performing general physical activities - Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body
  • Scheduling work and activities - Scheduling events, programs, and activities, for children at the Centre

 

About You!

Essential

§  A minimum of a Certificate 3 in Child Care studies. A Certificate 4 or Diploma in Child Care is desirable.

§  Senior First Aid Certificate, Anaphylaxis, Asthma Management Certificates

§  Current Working with Children Check (Blue Card) from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian

§  This position requires the incumbent to operate a C class motor vehicle and an appropriate license endorsement to operate this type of vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided before commencement of duty.

§  Ability to use a desktop computer, with familiarity with the Microsoft Windows environment and Microsoft Office applications and capacity to learn how to use a new clinical software package for keeping of electronic client records.

§  Strong commitment to supporting data collection within the service

 

Desirable

  • At least 2 years working with children is required. Experience working with children with a range of challenging behaviours is desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
